About Moto

Moto runs more motorway service areas than any other operator in Britain. Its forecourts exist to serve drivers who cannot easily go elsewhere, and they are priced accordingly — typically fifteen to twenty-five pence a litre above the surrounding area.

The premium is not arbitrary. Service areas pay very high ground rents, are required to stay open around the clock, must provide free parking and toilets, and sell far less fuel per site than their scale suggests. But there is no obligation to price in line with the local area, and no meaningful competition within the service area itself.

Moto has invested heavily in Electric Highway and Tesla charging, and the same captive-market logic applies to charging prices. For a driver with any flexibility, leaving at the next junction is almost always cheaper.
