About Shell

Shell has one of the most recognisable forecourt brands in the world and one of the largest UK networks. As with BP, a significant share of sites carrying the pecten are run by independent dealers or by forecourt operators rather than by Shell itself, and those operators set their own prices.

Shell has pushed harder than most on the non-fuel side: Waitrose and Little Waitrose shops on selected forecourts, Costa and deli2go counters, and Shell Recharge rapid chargers. Shell Go+ gives a discount after a set number of visits rather than points per litre, which rewards frequency rather than volume.

V-Power is the premium grade and the most heavily marketed super unleaded in Britain. It carries a substantial premium over standard E10 — often 15 to 25 pence a litre — which is worth weighing against the manufacturer's actual fuel recommendation for your car rather than the advertising.

Where Shell forecourts are

Coverage explains a good deal of what looks like brand pricing. Fuel is cheaper in some regions than others whatever the sign says, so a chain weighted towards the cheaper ones shows a lower national average without any of its sites pricing unusually.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current Shell petrol price?+

Shell is averaging £1.75 a litre for E10 petrol across 908 UK forecourts — £96.19 for a 55-litre tank. The cheapest Shell forecourt in the country is currently £1.47.

Is Shell cheaper than the UK average?+

Shell is 5.0p above the UK median of £1.70, which places it 28th of 29 ranked brands. Above the supermarkets, with a strong premium-fuel and convenience offer rather than a price offer.

How many Shell petrol stations are there in the UK?+

909 Shell forecourts are in our data, of which 908 are currently quoting a price, spread across 11 of the twelve UK regions.

Does Shell have a loyalty scheme?+

Yes — Shell Go+. Loyalty shifts the effective price by an amount that depends on how much you redeem rather than how much you fill, so it is worth counting only if you actually use it.

Does Shell sell super unleaded?+

Yes — Shell V-Power. It is averaging £1.97 a litre, 21.6p above standard E10. Whether a higher-octane grade does anything for your car is a question for the handbook, not the advertising: most engines are tuned for 95 RON and gain nothing from 97 or 99.

How do I find the cheapest Shell near me?+

Search your postcode on FuelSignal and filter by brand. Prices come from the government Fuel Finder feed, which has required every UK forecourt to report a change within thirty minutes since February 2026, so what you see is what is on the sign.
