The gap between the cheapest and dearest district in Britain is 34.0p a litre — £18.70 on a 55-litre tank, against a national median of £1.70. Almost none of that is available to any one driver, though: what matters is the spread inside the districts you can actually reach, which is what each district page works out.

Why postcode districts, not towns
A town boundary and a fuel market are not the same shape. Prices are set forecourt by forecourt against whoever is visible from the same road, so two ends of a large town can differ by more than two neighbouring towns do. A postcode district is closer to the size of the area a driver actually chooses within — a few miles, a handful of forecourts, one decision.
It is also how people search when they do not want to type a full postcode. Each district page lists every forecourt in it with today’s price, and then does the arithmetic on the neighbouring districts: not just whether they are cheaper, but whether they are cheaper by more than the drive costs. That calculation is simpler than most people expect, and the answer is usually no.
