Essar Oil UK owns Stanlow, one of the country's largest refineries, which supplies a substantial share of the fuel sold in the North West. The Essar forecourt brand is the retail end of that business and has grown steadily as independent sites have rebranded.
The network is weighted towards the North West and the Midlands, near the refinery, and consists of independently operated sites. Prices are set locally and are generally competitive against other independents.
Essar's significance to British drivers is larger than its forecourt count suggests: fuel from Stanlow reaches pumps under many other brands, because refined product is traded and shared across the industry regardless of whose sign is on the canopy.
